Orchestra’s French Fashions for Kids Grand Opening in King of Prussia, PA THIS SATURDAY

Orchestra’s French Fashions for Kids is coming to the U.S. and I am very excited to say that they have chosen King of Prussia Mall as their first store this side of the “pond”! See the flyer below for more details to attend the Grand Opening this weekend! Keep scrolling down for pictures from the sneak preview I was invited to attend this week.

Beautiful colors and great fabrics in a variety of clothing needs for kids! You couldn’t ask for more. I enjoyed a tour of the store and was very grateful to meet the gracious and lovely Agathe Boidin, CEO of Orchestra Premaman USA who explained the mini-collections for a variety of occasions spread throughout the store. Sizes go up to 14 for kids.

The clothes are comfortable and well-priced. They remind me of Gymboree which I used to buy when my kids were little but the fashion lines are more diverse and much more affordable for the quality.

About Orchestra:

Orchestra, a family-owned company since 1995, was created by Chantal and Pierre Mestre to design and produce a fun and affordable children’s clothing brand. Their experience as merchants in the textile industry and as parents to their own little ones, led them to develop a diverse fashion collection, ranging from newborn babies to young pre-teens.

Over the years, the brand has developed a unique distribution model that blends product groups and services. More than 3,000 designs are produced in a season and over 100 new items can be shipped to stores each week. The business has expanded its product offerings to include maternity fashion and childcare products and has introduced new shopping channels, particularly through its online store. Orchestra has become a unique “one-stop shop” for parents and expectant mothers, selling more than 80 million pieces a year. Orchestra strives to bring value, service and quality to its customers. Today, Orchestra, the leader in children’s clothing in France, is the 6th largest children’s clothing retailer in the world and operates 700 stores in 40 countries throughout Europe, Asia, and North Africa.

Interview with @JoeyMcIntyre of #ReturnofTheMac

In the new family-friendly show, Return of the Mac, Joey McIntyre plays an actor wanting to be taken seriously. His own beautiful family joins him as actors on the show as they navigate life when Joey is offered a job as a TV talk show host on a fledgling cable network, the Comfy Channel.

At a recent promotional event in King of Prussia, PA, I had the opportunity to meet and interview Joey. See a brief Q&A below:

Q: What do you want the audience to take away from this show?

A: I hope people relate no matter what they go through. It’s really about having to say “yes” when you really want to say “no” because hopefully it will lead to bigger and better things – you know, the ups and downs of any career and dealing with crazy people and trying to make the most of it.

Q: What excites you about this show?

A: I think it’s funny. I feel like I have a certain sensibility and humor and I was able to put together a team of good writers and actors.

Q: Do you help write the scripts?

A: I created the show, so yes. My real family is sprinkled in there and I kinda went for it. You have to ask for help and hopefully people will show up and they did for me. It’s something I have never done so I am proud of the final outcome. It is a good challenge.

GIFTED Movie is a MUST SEE for the whole family!

The whole family will enjoy GIFTED, a movie about a special young girl Mary, played by the very talented Mckenna Grace. Her uncle Frank Adler (Chris Evans) wants her to have a normal life, unlike his sister whose life as a genius drove her to suicide, leaving the child prodigy for Frank to raise. This arrangement doesn’t suit the grandmother (Lindsay Duncan) who tries for custody creating the main conflict of the film.

The film itself is well-paced thanks to the excellent work of Director Marc Webb, who shot the film in record time and yet produced a well-crafted piece that engages all ages with a stellar cast who work well off each other. Octavia Spencer and Jenny Slate add their own special touch as supporting characters who are torn by their love for this little girl and what each thinks may be best for her given her unique abilities.

In a recent interview, Mckenna Grace was asked if she memorized the math equations. Her response: “Yes, I did. But, my mom and I, we turned it into a little song that I sang in my head. I still remember that tune to this day because it was so catchy, it had to be a catchy tune or else I would forget it.”

GIFTED is a feel-good movie that brings up very real emotions when opinions differ in a family on how a child should be raised, gifted or not. See the downloadable Teacher’s Guide for discussion questions on the movie.

Watch the trailer below:

Synopsis: Frank Adler (Chris Evans) is a single man raising a child prodigy – his spirited young niece Mary (Mckenna Grace) – in a coastal town in Florida.  Frank’s plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the seven-year-old’s mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank’s formidable mother Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan) whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary.  Octavia Spencer plays Roberta, Frank and Mary’s landlady and best friend.  Jenny Slate is Mary’s teacher, Bonnie, a young woman whose concern for her student develops into a connection with her uncle as well.

Release: In Select Theatres April 7.

ABOUT FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS

Directed By:  Stephen Frears

Starring: Meryl Streep, Hugh Grant, Simon Helberg, Rebecca Ferguson, Nina Arianda

Set in 1940s New York, Florence Foster Jenkins is the true story of the legendary New York heiress and socialite (Meryl Streep) who obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer. The voice she heard in her head was beautiful, but to everyone else it was hilariously awful. Her “husband” and manager, St. Clair Bayfield (Hugh Grant), an aristocratic English actor, was determined to protect his beloved Florence from the truth. But when Florence decided to give a public concert at Carnegie Hall, St. Clair knew he faced his greatest challenge.

Could a Landline Be Your Lifeline? #Ooma

DispatcherAre your children calling from a cell phone or a landline?  And does it make any difference?  Surprisingly, the answer is yes.  According to the latest data, if you don’t have a landline in your home, it could be putting your children in grave danger.

Here’s a shocking fact:  According to an investigation by the USA Today, the chances of 911 dispatchers being able to find you based on your cell phone’s GPS can be as low as 10% in some parts of the country.  With a significant share of cell phone-to-911 calls being placed from within residences—and 45% of Americans opting out of landline coverage at home—countless people are left vulnerable in emergencies.  The question then becomes not why you should have a landline in the home, but why haven’t you gotten one yet?

In the spirit of keeping you and your family safe, I recently partnered with Ooma leading Internet home phone service with reliable E911 technology—to deliver three tips for keeping your home safe this summer in addition to owning a landline. (We have also used the Ooma phone system for years and LOVE it! Very low cost for a lot of value!)

TIP #1:  KEEP A FIRST AID KIT AT THE READY

Whether it’s for a small scrape or something far worse, it’s always a good idea to have a first aid kit handy.  People who call 911 from their cell phone are often surprised at how long emergency workers take to arrive on scene.  According to the recent Ooma.com 911 Emergency Response Study, more than one in five cell phone callers feel it takes too long—that’s seven times higher than for people who call from a landline.  If you’re often in situations when only a cell phone is available, consider keeping a first aid kit nearby.

TIP #2:  WRITE AN EMERGENCY CONTACT LIST

Make sure that no matter where you are, it’s easy for the people around you to call your emergency contacts. Consider posting your own number, as well as first response numbers, on your fridge so your kids know how to reach you and your family, family members who live close by, or the authorities.  Post the name and number of a trusted friend or neighbor, too.  With Ooma‘s home phone system, up to three of these contacts can be notified by text message automatically when a 911 call is placed.  In situations when every second counts, this reliable Internet-based technology could save tens of thousands of lives.

TIP #3: RECOGNIZE THE FIRST SIGNS OF DANGER

Educate your kids about the sights, smells, and sounds of danger.  If they hear a smoke alarm or see an appliance overheating, advise your children to get outside as quickly as possible.  Planning an exit strategy is key to getting a safe distance away from the house so you can alert a neighbor and have them call the fire department.  Consider making a detailed fire plan with multiple escape routes and keeping a printed copy of your fire plan on visible walls around your house.

For many people, money is understandably a legitimate concern—but when it comes down to it, we really can’t put a price on ensuring that the people we love are safe.  Luckily, first aid kits are both lightweight and budget-friendly, while the price of a secure Ooma landline pays for itself in just three months and costs less than a Netflix subscription on a monthly basis.

Ooma Telo & HandsetGot any 911 emergency stories of your own?  I wouldn’t be surprised.  In the past five years alone, over a quarter of Americans have called 911 with a cell phone, and in that group, there were many dissatisfied callers.  If you’ve got a story you’d feel comfortable sharing, I’d love to hear about them!  Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments below.

Take the pledge! Farm animals & your health depends on it. #ShopWithYourHeart

shopwithyourheart

Do you care about the quality of the food you eat? Do you care about the way the animals have been treated that become the food you eat? I do!

The ASPCA is trying to bring together people who care and has launched a new initiative to improve the lives of farm animals called Shop With Your Heart.

Now, YOU can make the pledge to be a more welfare-conscious shopper. Everyone who signs the pledge also gains access to an exclusive Shop With Your Heart Grocery List, including welfare-certified and widely available plant-based brands.

unnamed (1)As you may already know, most of the nearly 9 billion animals raised for meat, milk and eggs in the US are suffering in inhumane factory farms. And animals are not the only affected, as factory farms impact human health—they can be breeding grounds for dangerous pathogens and the antibiotics used to prevent disease create the potential for dangerous, drug-resistant bacteria to develop. To fully harness the power of our collective purchases and demand better lives for farm animals, the Shop With Your Heart initiative gives consumers the resources to recognize, locate and demand meaningfully welfare-certified meat, eggs and dairy products as well as plant-based alternatives. – From the ASPCA
